Artificially created human-weapon hybrids, they represent the smallest army in history.

Chinese translation?[edit]

Isn't this an official Chinese translation? It doesn't look Japanese. Or is it bootleg? Jyuichi 04:00, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Well honestly, I really don't know that this is official or not, or even just an error. However it could be official, a number of japanese/korean games gets chinese translations. But it's weird you found it on an english language site (not on a chinese site), it could be an error that they wrote chinese. I would like to add info to the article about this, but since it's unclear, I'd rather wait. --Rev-san (talk) 09:12, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

About the fan translation[edit]

Gadget Trial English Patch Download

Newspaper98, you removed the information about the english fan translation, on the basis that it s not official, not 'notable', and it is not encyclopedic content. I have read some discussions on your talk page, and I didn't understand your point. You seem to make distinction between 'notable' official and not-notable 'unofficial' products, in this case, a translation patch. It is not very NPOV that you think an official translation would be the only notable one.

I think that a translation, which provides access to a MUCH larger (i.e. english) audience is notable, whether it is made by a company or some ordinary people. You're stating that some 'unofficial' translation isn't notable, partly because it is poorly made, since everyone can translate 'unofficialy', so they doesn't deserve mention. Please Assume Good Faith, I've seen this translation, and it 'looks like' an official one would look like. As a fan of anime and related materials, I know that these people who make these kind of patches are highly skilled in programming, graphic editing, and Japanese, and they devote themselves to the translation projects. And also, official translations can be bad indeed. So it's not a matter of officiality or authority. Another reasoning of yours is that these are advertisements. Again, please Assume Good Faith. I'm not related to the patch's developer team in any way, and as you can say, I1m the main contributor for this article. Also, seeing whole lenghty articles about commercial products and services, like Pepsi Cola, or KFC, it's kind of humorous to talk about 'advertising' in this case. I don't think that any fan translation maker would edit articles just to 'advertise' something free and fan-made. About hacking... These patches are technically hacks, but who said Wikipedia can't contain information about hacks? The patch developers don't distribute the game itself, besides, it's unlicensed outside Japan.

My last point is, please _add information_ to Wikipedia, not remove from it. It is silly. --Rev-san (talk) 21:47, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

'Unofficial translations: Unless they are mentioned by independent reliable sources, unofficial translations should not be mentioned. If they are mentioned by such sources, they can be mentioned, although one should try to avoid linking to the website's page if at all possible in order to reduce any potential copyright violations.' - Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Article guidelines. Atlantima (talk) 19:54, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
Too bad that's just a guideline, not a policy. Shouldn't does not mean don't. Also, see the conclusion about linking to copyright violations on Meta: Wikilegal: Linking Legal Considerations - Conclusion, accoding to this, I'm considering including a link to the fan translation again. --Rev L.
