Sony president Jack Tretton has claimed he isn’t concerned about sales of the PS4 or meeting demand, the company is pretty confident on that front. However, the demand placed on Sony’s PlayStation Network servers this Friday may cause a few issues, mainly due to that day one patch being downloaded by so many new owners.

If you decide to update using a USB stick, you first need to make sure your PS4 is powered off completely (power indicator is not lit). Then touch the power button for at least 7 seconds at which point you should hear two beeps and the PS4 will enter safe mode. After that, you can insert the USB stick with the update on and select “Update System Software.” The rest of the instructions will appear on screen during the update process.

The update can be downloaded right now from the PlayStation support site, and it seems like the best thing to do if you don’t want to be waiting around to use your PS4 on Friday. Once applied, the console will have access to Remote Play on PS Vita, second screen gaming, Ustream and Twitch apps, screenshot and video capture, Blu-ray and DVD playback, and the ability to play games as they download among other things.
