Patch Installation Failure Windows update service disabled (Error 1058)
Problem
This KB article will guide you when the patch installation has failed and the following error message is displayed on the screen, 'The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it' (Error code 1058).
Cause
Installing ePat from LANDesk - 4. Remote Desktop Connection for Windows. Download Remote Desktop Connection for Mac a. Select 'Microsoft Software & Patches' b. Select 'Remote Desktop Connection' c. Copy 'RemoteDesktopConnection201_ALL.dmg' to your desktop 2. Open 'RemoteDesktopConnection201_ALL.dmg' and double-click the installer.
You get this error because the 'Windows Update' is disabled in the Windows service.
Resolution
'Windows update' should be started/enabled in the Windows service.
To enable/start this service, follow the steps given below:
- Click the Start Button in the Task bar
- Type 'Services.msc' in the run field
- Select 'Windows update' Service and right click on it
- Select Properties>Startup type
- Select 'Automatic / Manual / Automatic (Delayed Start)'
Note: (Except Disabled any of the above can be selected) Windows update service is enabled now
Now you can deploy your configuration again to see that the configuration is deployed to the targeted computers that has failed earlier.

Considering the query, I would require additional information to approach for the correct resolution:
1)What is the exact error message you get along with the error code?

2)Did you make any changes to the computer?
3)What are the KB articles related to the updates that failed to download?
4)Is there any security software that has been enabled while downloading updates?
I would suggest you to download and install the updates manually which have failed to download.
Refer to the methods below to resolve the issue:
Method 1:
Start the Windows Update Troubleshooter
a)Open Search by swiping in from the right edge of the screen (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer down), and then tapping or clicking Search
b)Tap or click Settings and type troubleshooting in the text box
c)Tap or click Troubleshooting from the list of results

d)Tap or click Fix problems with Windows Update , click Next and follow the instructions.
Method 2:
Perform Clean Boot and check for the status of the issue:
Step 1:
a) Press the ‘Windows + R’ key on the keyboard.
b) In the ‘Run’ windows type ’MSCONFIG’ and click ‘Ok’.
c) Click the ‘Boot’ tab and uncheck ‘Safe Boot’ option (if checked).
d) On the ‘General’ tab, click to select the option ‘Selective startup’, and then click to clear the option Load startup items check box.
e) On the ‘Services’ tab, click to select the ‘Hide all Microsoft services’ check box, and then click ‘Disable all’.

f) On the ‘Startup’ tab, click ‘Open Task Manager’. In the Task Manager window under startup tab, right click on each startup item which are enabled and select ‘Disable’.
f) Click ‘OK’, and then click Restart.
After this step, let us know about the status of the issue.
Step 2:
Note: After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to boot to normal startup.
a) Press the ‘Windows + R’ key on the keyboard.
b) In the ‘Run’ windows type ’MSCONFIG’ and click ‘Ok’.
c) On the ‘General’ tab, click the ‘Normal Startup’ option, and then click ‘OK’.
d) When you are prompted to restart the computer, click ‘Restart’.
